CivicScience lands $1.2m funding for polling tool

US— CivicScience, which provides a polling tool for websites and sells reports based on results, has raised $1.2m in funding from investors including the NPD Group and pollster Anzalone Liszt Research.

Other investors included Kevin McClatchy of the McClatchy Company.

The firm, which was launched in 2008, raised $1.6m in a number of smaller tranches prior to this latest financing round.

CivicScience makes the iQpoll tool, which allows website owners to incorporate short polls into their online content. Repeat visitors can be recognised so profiles can be built up over time, and questions can be integrated with other polls hosted on a site. The firm sells custom and syndicated research products based on the data it collects, sharing revenue with the sites that host its surveys.

President and CEO John Dick told Research: “Our focus right now is on aggressively expanding the network of websites, social networks, and mobile platforms that use our core technology. We’re doing this through marketing, naturally, but also by improving the tools we give to those platform partners to generate value for them.”

TechCrunch reported that the firm plans to build on polling work it has done for the website of the Republican National Committee, targeting brands, government agencies, political sites and educational institutions.
