DoH cuts contribution to British Social Attitudes Survey

UK— The Department of Health has cut its funding of the British Social Attitudes Survey, according to the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) which has run the study for nearly 30 years.

Part of the funding shortfall is being made up by contributions from the King’s Fund, a charity focused on healthcare issues, although NatCen said some valuable questions about public attitudes to health provision still won’t be able to be included.

NatCen said the department’s decision applies only to this year’s survey. “No decision has been made about whether or not they might fund questions on future years of the survey,” the organisation said.

  • NatCen CEO Penny Young has written a comment piece today calling for a more strategic and co-ordinated approach to government cuts to social research.
