Agencies wanted for SA media ownership survey

Media Development and Diversity Agency to track trends in South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA— The Media Development and Diversity Agency, a government body founded to ensure disadvantaged communities in South Africa are not excluded from media development, is calling for research agencies to submit tenders for a survey on the trends of ownership and control in South African media.

The study will focus on categorising media ownership by province and by district municipality.

The successful agency will catalogue broadcast and print media throughout the country, establish the extent to which disadvantaged communities are taking up media ownership and assess diversity levels in media ownership. Other aspects of the survey include ascertaining which companies own the most popular news sites and mobile phone content.

Prospective bidders will be expected to use a blend of qualitative and quantitative approaches to collect the necessary data.

Details on the Trends of Media Ownership Control contract can be found here.
