ASC becomes a community interest company

UK – The Association for Survey Computing (ASC) has secured the status of a ‘not-for-profit’ community interest company (CIC).

People high-fiving

The ASC said it was incorporated as a CIC on 4th November 2022, and as part of its new CIC status will seek to reinvest any surplus from its activities back into the community and in increasing access to its content.

A CIC is, broadly, a social enterprise that uses its profits and assets for the public good, and have existed in the UK since being introduced by the government in 2005.

Acquiring CIC status obliges the ASC to carry out its activities for the benefit of its community, which the organisation defined as people who work in information technology and computing for market, opinion or social research, or are involved in the collection and processing of surveys and statistics.

Activities that will be performed for the public good include peer learning, the ASC’s awards, peer-reviewed papers and articles, and the ASC’s events and conferences.
