DMC hires Somal as chief commissioner
The DMC, which oversees the Data and Marketing Association code, has a team of commissioners in place to ensure responsible marketing practices are kept in place.
Somal has 25 years’ experience as a senior executive and is currently an independent assessor of the Financial Ombudsman Service and a serving judge.
She will retain her existing roles, including as a council member at the General Medical Council and a trustee at domestic abuse charity Refuge.
Previous roles include a founding commissioner and board member at the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Somal replaces George Kidd, who has come to the end of his term as chief commissioner after a decade in the role.
Stephen Maher, chair of the DMA, said : “I’d like to personally thank George for his leadership, expertise and commitment to the DMC throughout his long tenure. He has been a truly remarkable ambassador to our industry.
“I am also delighted to welcome Amerdeep as the new chief commissioner. Her wealth of experience and invaluable knowledge of regulatory and judiciary practices will help drive the DMC forward into a new era.”
