Elon Musk ‘searching for new CEO’ at Twitter

US – Twitter chief executive Elon Musk has announced he is searching for a replacement as chief executive after Twitter users voted to remove him from the role.

Last week, Musk set up a poll on Twitter on whether he should stand down as chief executive and hire a replacement.

The social media network’s polling feature allows users to ask their own followers a simple ‘yes/no’ question.

Musk bought Twitter for $44bn earlier this year, and his reign has been marked by a number of changes in policy and controversial decisions, including the decision to introduce a subscription-based ‘Twitter Blue’ service.

The results of the poll saw 57.5% vote in favour of Musk’s departure from the role, although he will remain as owner of the social media network.

In a tweet days later, Musk confirmed that he would “resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job”.

He added that he would likely “just run the software & servers teams” at Twitter.

The latest vote in one of a number Musk has run during his tenure, including a poll that saw a ban on former US president Donald Trump overturned.

That online vote saw a slim majority in favour ( 51.8%), with more than 15 million users taking part in the vote.
