EU-US data transfer programme sees slow uptake
According to ComputerWeekly.com, just 40 US firms have been certified under the transatlantic data transfer programme so far, though this is expected to gain momentum.
According to the US Department of Commerce, which started accepting applications on August 1, around 200 applications are being processed, but this is reportedly well below the 4,000 companies certified under the former Safe Harbour agreement.
The Privacy Shield programme was developed to replace Safe Harbour after it was declared invalid by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
