The app, made by Finnish company ProtoGeo Oy, whose acquisition by Facebook was announced last month, tracks the distance consumers walk or run and measures calories burned using a smartphone’s built-in sensors.
According to the Wall Street Journal, until as recently as Friday, Moves’ privacy policy had stated that the company did not disclose an individual’s user data to third parties without their consent, and that this would policy would stay in place even if the app were to be acquired. The WSJ reports that a Facebook spokesperson reiterated a previous statement that the companies would not “commingle” data, but that they planned to “share” it.
