The 2023 Research Heroes are:
Lambeth Peer Action Collective (LPAC)
To be considered for the Research Hero accolade, nominees must work in research, insight or analytics (including support and operations) and have done one or more of the following:
- Contributed during 2022/23 to make a difference in research, or to support colleagues and co-workers or the community
- Given consistent service to the sector for which they cannot be recognised with a professional award, e.g. a fellowship
- Forwarded the cause of research, or issues such as quality, diversity and sustainability.
MRS started the Research Heroes programme in 2021. Following a call for nominations from the industry, nominees were judged and the final list curated by: Gemma Bumpsteed of Unilever; MRS chief executive Jane Frost; Shazia Ali, Mint Research; Nick Meagher, Cooperative Group; Deliveroo’s Hayley Ward; BT’s Clare Woodward, and Georgie White of Holland & Barratt.
Jane Frost, chief executive, MRS, said: “We all need to say thank you more and celebrate more. There are no limits to the Research Heroes scheme – it has been set up to help more thank yous to be said. All the Research Heroes are receiving a big thank you from their colleagues via this award. Congratulations to all of them for inspiring the nominations and a personal thank you for all you have done.”
Gemma Bumpsteed said: “You can really feel how much the nominees are appreciated through the write-ups in their nominations. I really hope they realise how much their colleagues value them for what they do, but more importantly for who they are.”
Clare Woodward said: “It was great to be involved in this award, which recognises the unsung heroes of research. It was amazing to see the number of people nominated and the wide range of contributions they’ve made to make our industry even better.”
