Ofcom may regulate video apps
According to media reports, under the changes Ofcom would be able to fine video-sharing apps and websites if they have failed to protect young people from pornographic, violent and other harmful videos.
A spokesman for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said: "The implementation of the AVMSD [Audiovisual Media Services Directive] is required as part of the United Kingdom’s obligations arising from its membership of the European Union and until the UK formally leaves the European Union all of its obligations remain in force."
In which case Ofcom would take over this regulation in September 2020, although if Brexit does take place in October, it may not be implemented.
