SCL Elections fined by ICO
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) brought the case after Carroll – one of the millions of people whose data was used by SCL – filed a complaint.
SCL admitted it had failed to comply with the ICO’s legal notice which was issued the day before the company went into administration in May 2018.
The Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, said: "Organisations that handle personal data must respect people’s legal privacy rights. Where that does not happen and companies ignore ICO enforcement notices, we will take action. This prosecution, the first against Cambridge Analytica, is a warning that there are consequences for ignoring the law."
