Six-month research revenue down 3% at Creston

UK— Research agencies owned by the marketing communications group Creston reported £7.5m in revenue for the six month period to 30 September, down 3% year-on-year.

Creston characterised the performance as “robust”, pointing to figures showing that UK research commissions had fallen by 8% for the same period.

The group said it was also encouraged that revenue was up on the second half of the previous financial year, which came in at £7.1m.

Headline and reported profit before interest and tax fell 22% to £1.7m, “a result of the small reduction in revenue and our ongoing investment in the division in order to broaden the skill-set to drive future growth opportunities”.

Creston’s insight agencies are ICM Research, ICM Direct, FieldWork UK and Marketing Sciences. Client wins for the period include Intel, Danone Dairies, Tesco, Heineken and the BBC.

Total group revenue, including communications agencies and health-focused businesses, was up 14% to £32m. Pictured is Creston CEO Don Elgie.
