US Census Bureau director resigns
Santos was midway through a five-year term as bureau director, and has resigned shortly after the inauguration of Donald Trump as president of the US.
The news was confirmed via a LinkedIn post from Santos, which shared a news story from media outlet NPR about his resignation, adding that “it’s been such an honour to serve our nation”.
Santos’ resignation will pave the way for Trump to make his own appointment as director of the US Census Bureau, with the next census due in 2030.
The resignation also comes as the new US government sets about enacting widespread reforms and reductions to public sector spending and administration in the US.
