WIRe produces sexual harassment support guide

US – Women in Research (WIRe), the non-profit organisation for advancing women in market research, has developed a global resource guide with advice for those suffering sexual harassment.

As cases of sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace have gained more prominence following the media attention around the alleged attacks by film producer Harvey Weinstein, there has been increased attention on harassment against women at work.

As a result, movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp have seen women across the world, and in all areas of work, share their experiences and show their support for those who have been abused.

Kirsten Luck, founder of WIRe, said in a newsletter to its community: “The past year has shone a light on sexual harassment in the workplace and the persistent hurdle it creates for women. We’ve all witnessed, overheard or lived our own tales of harassment, often at the hands of those in positions of power who hold our livelihoods and well-being hostage.”

She went on to say that since the #MeToo movement, there has been an “influx” of women contacting the organisation to report their own cases of harassment and assault.

“Although we don’t have the means to address these issues one on one, it has spurred the development of our new global resource guide, containing information to help those experiencing sexual harassment and assault find help.”
