Dunnhumby adds competitive retail tool

US – In the US, data science business Dunnhumby has developed a tool to assess retailers’ competitive threats and offer insight about competitors.

The web-based tool combines geo-location data from location analytics platform Placer.ai – including cross-shopping behaviour and proximity to competitors – with customer perception data from Dunnhumby’s annual Retailer Preference Index (RPI).

Retailers can use the ‘Competitive Threat Evaluator’ tool to determine: their biggest competitive threats; which of their stores are most and least threatened by competition; and which competitors are strong performers on issues such as price, promotions and experience.

The tool is currently available to grocery retailers, with other retail sectors to follow.

Matt O’Grady, president of the Americas at Dunnhumby, said the tool offers retailers “a single dataset that provides invaluable shopper insights and store preferences to make sure they stay on top of their competitive threats.”
