Sondergaard (pictured), who had been with the company for almost 30 years, resigned from his position due to behaviour the company “determined to be inconsistent with its code of conduct and core values”, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing from 21 August.

Sondergaard joined the company in 1988 and was appointed senior vice-president of Gartner Research in 2004.

The SEC filing from Gartner said: “There has been no disagreement between Mr. Sondergaard and Gartner around strategy, financials or business practices.”

Gartner’s Michael Harris has replaced Sondergaard as executive vice-president of research and advisory, effective immediately. Harris joined the company in 1998 and most recently held the role of senior vice-president for IT leaders and tech professionals research. He will report directly to chief executive Gene Hall.
