When asked if they agree or disagree with the statement ‘ I want to enjoy life today and will worry about savings and investments later’ 34% agreed ( 12% completely, 22% somewhat).

Those disagreeing were slightly higher; 38% overall – made up of 14% who disagreed strongly and 24% who disagreed somewhat. A quarter ( 25%) said they were neutral.

While men were evenly divided in the two camps, women were more likely to be savings-minded with 40% disagreeing with the statement.

The highest percentage of fun-lovers were among 20- to 29-year-olds, with 41% agreeing with having fun now and worrying about saving later. A quarter ( 26%) of people aged 50- 59-years-old and 60+ years old also agree with living for today.

However, a saving mindset increases steadily with age. It peaks at 43% of 50- 59-year-olds and 42% of those aged 60 and over.

GfK conducted the online survey with more than 27,000 consumers aged 15 or older in 22 countries.
